Gentle rain all day. Demi rang up in morning & asked to see me. I spent the day dawdling and dozing. Demmy came at five & we drove till 6.30. He behaved very well & almost retrieved himself. Went to bed at 10 o'clock. Had to take veranol at 11.15 & so got to sleep till 4 a.m.

Saturday 17
Gentle rain nearly all day. Had some nice little snoozes during day. Wrote a few letters & pottered & went to other French place for lunch. Wet day [previous two words crossed out] Went to bed at 10.20 & went to sleep after 12.
Tried to start on a movie-play-novel but the muse was jealous of the other things that held my mind.

Sunday 18
Went to church in morning with the girls then to lunch at Paris Café on Haviland & walked a little in the Fenway. Had a beautiful sleep. Nancy & S.P. came for afternoon tea pottered, had supper & went to bed. Feeling abject, rebellious & discontented and shuddering at the thought of being compelled to go back to Chicago grind.
