Cold day after rain. Mrs U.
had fire & we had tea before it
Did shorthand & pottered back
& forth to shop at World's
End. Read "Napoléon Intime"
till late - going back to a
candle like the bush.

THUR. AUG. 31 1916
Went swimming with Walsøes
in afternoon & home with them
for tea & washed my hair.
Paul gave me a C.S. lecture.
I read "Somewhere in London"
to Maud & she expressed
herself entertained vastly.
