will behold no more till the morning of the resurrection.
I can assure you, it was no small pleasure to us to hear
that your dear Father's passage thru the gloomy valley of the
shadow of death, was calm & serene, supported by the
Omnipotent arm of those who hath died, ' I will never
leave thee nor foresake thee" I trust my dear Brothers
the affective bereavement has been accompanied by
the cheering comforts of Him, whose consolations are within
few nor small who amidst all the visitudes of time & the
changes which death is continually introducing [indecipherable]
the circle of our earthly friends remains unchangably
the same, & is the everlasting rock of ages. The source of
His peoples Joy, & the fountain of their happiness. Death
has also [indecipherable] again our little band. Brethren Bick-
nell & [indecipherable] have been called to their everlasting
rest. Br B has left a widow & 5 dear babes to lament
their loss. I am happy in being able to inform you that
my dear partner, myself and our three dear little ones
have our health tolerably well considering the climate, food & other privations. Br [indecipherable] and two
children who are with us in Huahine have their
health also tolerably well. The work in which we

are engaged continues to prosper among us Mr [indecipherable]
a large [indecipherable] place of worship & gave congregations of 1200
every Sabbath, a Christian church of 21 members whose conduct
has hitherto been an ornament & their profession, we have
also two schools one for adults and one for the Children
our Sunday school too contains from 300 to 350. We had
a very interesting public examination a few weeks ago, when
two little girls repeated without making any mistakes the
XXY Chap of Matth. ? little boys repeated very correctly the XX1 of
Luke a number of others repeated [indecipherable] & when
public reward were given to those who excelled consisting of
copies of the Gospels in Tahitian and copies of the Tahitian
Hymn book after which they had treats on the neigh-
bouring hills. similar to the treats of the Silver st schools at
Canonbury or the Parramatta children in Mr Hassalls
Orchard. After they had all partaken of a plentiful re-
past provided by the Chiefs at which Mrs E Mrs L and
all our little ones as well as ourselves were present.
The girls assembled on one side the boys on the other &
we then sang our Hymn the boys & girls alternately after
which I gave the Childrens parents & Teachers an ad-
dress, when one of their teachers concluded with prayer &
we returned home highly delighted with the manner in
which we had spent the day. I need not tell you
it reminded me of Silver st or Parramatta. I
