Bay of Islands 441
New Zealand April 27 1822

My dear friends
Although I have nothing particularly
interesting to communicate yet the favorable
opportunity that presents itself compels me to
let you know how we are - & what we are doing
We had a favorable passage to this place
were only a fortnight the winds being fair
we were detained here a week taking in
timber [indecipherable] put out to sea last Saturday
& were out till Tuesday where were obliged
to put back the wind being foul - here
we have been ever since at anchor in
Koraradica Bay - what will our Dear
friends at Tahiti think at our long
detention - they are grieving heartily for us
thinking we are taken at some of the
Islands at which we intended to call.

We were nearly taken at the North
very near to the shore the Natives came
off in [indecipherable]- were rather troublesome.
A Cheif was sitting in the companion
& any way Mrs M & Mrs Henry wished to go

PS. We are rather surprised that our little Schooner
has not arrived - perhaps she has had winds.
