I feel myself under [indecipherable] obligations to your
Mother for her (words crossed out) great kindness to my
daughter Ellen. It appears that she has acted
like a Mother to her indeed. Will you be plea
-sed to express to her the greatful sense I en-
tertain of this her kindness to her, and present
her for me my most grateful thanks.

Beg her to excuse my not doing it at present
by letter to her self as I am so hurried now and assure her that I shall
not fail, God willing, to let her hear from
me by Samuel, who is now to the Eastward
