My Dear Friend & Brother in Xt.

May grace & mercy & peace be mul
tiplied unto you! This last opportunity of writ
ing, to the Colony which was by our Brother Haywood on the Ship
Britan..... I wrote to your dear mother, but being
much hurried, & having written to you not long before
by the Ship Carolina Capt Taylor I omited writing
to you by that conveyance which I hope you
will excuse. OUr brother Hayward & partner
have I hope safely reached the Colony before this
time. You would be glad to see them; and will
(?) make a prudent & judicious, as well
as truly pious Friend. It was an unhappy
business that he could not continue in the mission.
It was, I believe, with much reluctance he left it.
He would feel however the loss regret on leaving it
as the state of things at Otaheiti, where he latterly
resided, were very unpromising for some time before
& at the time of his departure: and I am sorry to
have to say that there is little alteration for the
better in them as yet. The loss of the late, in
many respects Excellent Pomare, to the cause of
the mission and to the Islands at large is certainly
great, and is surely felt. The more frequent
