visits of vessels to that Island this last season
and the introduction by them of greater quantities of
Spiritous liquors among the people, and Pomare's
authority influence being wanting to restrain them,
the disorder arising therefrom have been great.
Here we have been happily almost free from the visits
of vessels & have experienced by tlittle of these effects
and altho Satan & his emisssaries have been giving
us much trouble & vexation here of late by endeavour

& simplicity of heart in the work of the ministry
if you would be useful, and to this end, guard against
all High Church notions, and a spirit of Intolerance

as you would against the plague, for it would mar
your usefulness compleatly, and esprive you in a great
measure of the comforts of the gospel in your own soul,
and be likely to bring a blast yea curse upon your ministry
instead of a blessing. What High Churchman has ever
yet been useful to any remarkable degree in his minstry?
I do not recollect reading of one that has: but I do recollect
reading of great numbers of Moderate & liberal Church minis
