Hassall's continuing battle to obtain a proper income for his church work continued throughout
his life. As a delegate to the Anglican Synod in Brisbane in September 1888 he made only one
remark according to the report published in The Week of 15 September 1888. He supported W.
H. Groom's proposition that parishes add 2% for the clergies" stipend and pay it into the General
Church Fund. He felt it would be a great help for the clergy if they were paid from this fund
according to what each parish contributed.
