When begun – often gives a respite –
Strikes a single blow – gives some
light strokes, then witholds [withholds] rest to try
the effect of these –. Dangers – sick-
-nesses – deliverances &c. [etc.] – forborne to cut off ~

These are the riches of Gs [God's] forbearance.
He forbs [forbears] to inflict nec. [necessary] evils as long
as poss. [possible] – when obliged to begin, he
forbears severity – till it can no longer
be deferred.

By wh. [which] we understand Gs [God's] patience
& painful waiting on men – his sufferance
of their evil conduct – & base ingrat-
-itude – hardness of heart – & stiff re-
-bellion against him & his law – even
while he has striven to confer good on them.
