3 To draw the sting of Vengeance.
Quiet, gentle spir. [spirit] makes revenge powerless.
No pleasure in it when one takes it meekly.
The arm is paralyzed that strikes at
unoffending innocence – the unarmed &
serene-souled-man – No triumph there.!
4 To effectively rebuke ill-will ~
Ill-will burns not unless fostered.
Fuel gone – it goes. Calm gentle
face – placid look – even of inanimate ob-
-jects (river &c. [etc.]) checks & quenches it ~

5. To warm coldness into love.
No mind is harsh, or morose, or mel-
-ancholic – or crabbed, or besotted enough to
escape its power –. It is allmost [almost] irresistible.
The loftiest pride must do it homage – the coldest
ice confess its warmth – t. [the] hardest heart give
it room – the meanest soul lack
meanness when it comes – {All must love.} #
