They have a vast and happy influence in
the affairs of human Society.

1 They prolong health & life.

Violent passions destroy men.

1 day less for every fit. Paralisys [paralysis] or
appolex. [apoplexy] – soon come. Pass. [passionate] men prey on
themselves – as well as others.

He who turns away wrath – is a peace-maker –
blesses all; & the parties. (Kindness, time only, cure
wrath.)

2. They allay hatreds & Strifes.

Where no truth-bearer &c. [etc.] – so where
these come – like oil, not on flame – but
on troubled waters. Imposs. [Impossible] to be long
lingering with an unperturbed, cool man –
X.X. [Christian]. – Leave off contention ere meddled with.

Oft a quiet whisper – & even unruffled
tone hushes the stormiest bosom. Anger often
often fails if ends – Scolder – loud-talker –
loose [lose] respect – then influence.
