II But whether there be prophecies, they
shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall
cease; whether there be kn. [knowledge] it shall vanish
away."

1 Gift of prophecy is temporary –
its ends are soon answered – at most
it lasts till death – has no sphere
in the coming world. Desire some
gift of the Spirit more lasting – that
will continue with you immortality.

2 Power to speak in foreign langs [languages] –
is also a specific office – soon to cease
covet it not so much as to forget
that there is a gift worthier & nobler
– a possessn [possession] wh. [which] knows no ceasing –
Seek not the transient as the permanent
Be not shortsighted – or vain-minded.
