richest. Men flatter themselves they have it not
bec. [because] the same kind of evidences appear not
in them as in others. "Life one long sigh for
wealth – Coin Heart's blood for Gold – Sell
soul for gain." May not be this &
yet be covetous.

IV Guilt, Evil of Covetousness.
1 Contracts the understanding. Truth
no place, where cash the highest Good. No time
for kn. [knowledge], cultivation, – soul runs to waste. Churned
down to one barren idea ~

2 Hinders the heart. The contact
of benev. [benevolence] resisted will shut it up more
& more. Integrity will fail, take advan-
-tage of weakness &c. [etc.] – & so grow callous.

3. Destroys the social virtues.
Stranger to the charities of life. – never
attains his end. Feel respons. [responsible] that thon-
-sted makes him unhappy. While he is not
doing well for community – he is living
out of holiest & hapiest [happiest] Sphere.
