3 Not of nat. [nature] of an explicit legal enactment
with exact & sole penalties attached.

Though every thing wh. [which] it is fit & right for
man to do has rewards – & the failure to per-
-form every such thing involves serious evils –
yes. nothing is truly & properly a legal enact-
-ment wh. [which] has not definite sanctions attached
of good & evil.

4. It is of the nature of Summary – a nut-
-shell – expression of the whole teaching of
God in the matter of our duties to one another.
It is the latter portion of t. [the] mor. [moral] law compressed.

Same as – "Love neighbor as self" – except
that refers to the state of feeling – this to the
state of action – while each involves t. [the] other.

5 It is :. [therefore] of t. [the] Nat. [Nature] of a moral obligation
founded on the great princ. [principle] of benevolence.
It comes to us sanctioned by the weight
of C^s [Christ's] character & authority – and en-
