"Man pray [prays] all day, & at night be in-
-temperate – spend his time in reading,
and his recreation be sinful – study
religion, & practice self-interest –
leave swearing, & retain pride –
become chaste, & remain peevish & im-
perious –; this man is not changed
from state of sin to grace, he does at
no hand belong to God; he hath
suffered himself to be scared from
one sin, & tempted from another
by interest, & hath left a third
by reason of his inclination, &
a fourth for shame, or want of
opportunity – but t. [the] Spirit of God
hath not one perfect plans [plan] there.

He may use such advantages – but
has not yet begun t. [the] direct work of
grace in his heart. When leave every
sin – resolve never to return to t. [the] chains,
have no love for world but such as
may be a servant of G. [God] – then we
are entered into a state of grace.
