I Why ought we to be thus in
earnest for our Salvation.

1 Because it must be sought.
No one will be saved who does
not earnestly seek to be.
There is no promise but to him who
asks – seeks – strives – in earnest.
He who waits & does nothing – will
wait forever. (Indiff. [Indifferent], neglect offend God.)

2 Because delay is dangerous.
More difficult to-morrow [tomorrow] – know
not what obstacles may rise –
what distracting things may intervene –
what changes may come – what
evil influences may surround
us – what enticements may overcome.
