(2) [centered]
in the way to spend time as we desire.
Just get ready to live as we wish –
then die. Yet all we desire of wealth
health fails – our loved ones die – our
hearts & hopes are crushed – our ambition
is disappointed – our life embittered ~

(b) Because – we may have life – real &
true happiness – constant enjoyment &
genuine good without this abundance

1 Need comforts to be sure – the ordina-
-ry supply of common wants –.
Poverty is an evil – but the middle
ground is the one the text has in
view – corresponding with the
prayer of Aqui [Aquinas] "Give me &c. [etc.]."
Poor men live longest.
Poor are quite as happy as the rich.
How much joy has one seen in a
contented mind, a pious state, a pure heart.
Blessed he who spends little – & has to spare.
