2 But men foresee events be-
-yond their personal, actual, sphere –
beyond this life of theirs, & are in duty
bound to act in view of them.
I refer not now to that great
duty of personal preparation for
their own immortal existence –
wh. [which] all need – but
To the duty every man owes
to posterity – to those who shall
live after him.
All are bound to make the world
better than they found it.
