As a ch [church] & Soc [Society], we
have been severely chas-
-tised. So let us take it
as God's reproof –.

A new experience – one
of life's changes – what w'd [would] our
life be without its emergencies –
dangers – trials – & sorrows?

Our church building was one of the oldest
in Cal. [California] – Can think of but one
or two used so long. Every Sab. [Sabbath] since
built it had service in it ~
Some suffered severely, &
have sympathy – – –

Our work has been stopped to make us
start better. Shall we do it? or shall
we run as rats from a sinking ship – give
over all &c [etc.] – Cant [Can't] we show that we are
equal to anything? that No Town was
ever made of such stern, strong, go-ahead
men?
