cities built artificially, and
forced into prominence by vast
expenditures, and needed for no
large purposes of industry, trade,
and manufacture, have had but
an Ephemeral Existence, in their
states of pomp, pride, and power; but
still have lingered in the memory
of men, and will be going, teaching
their lessons, as they have been, down through
the ages.
