for $5000. a month. The blocks covered by
the population were five, North & South, and
four East & West, and there might have been
100 persons to a block, as inhabitants;
and half as many more in the hotels and
lodging houses. All through the Summer the
numbers rapidly increased, and when the over-
-land trains arrived in the early autumn, the
place was overrun with people.
