Explain the Text – give right construc. [construction] of it &c [etc.] ~

Proposition. The results of mor. [moral] acs [accounts] extend into a future
statewhere only men reap all the fruits of their doings.

This is evinced – in some degree –

I From Analogous facts. (1) Things are somewhat chaotic –
yet there is a law running through. Conseqs [Consequences] of acts not terminate
with commission of it nor with immed. [immediate] effect on the body. True effect
oft seen beyond one incidental; tho. [though] for t. [the] incidental effect twas done.
E.g. [for example] Intemperance, Profligacy, Ambition, duelling ~ Conseqs [Consequences] stop
not: Strike deep in – no power eradicate them – peace, health, rep [reputation] –
guilt, they thicken – he dies – bolts tumbling over him.

(2) – Virtue generally prospers. Wicked are punished.
Soc. [Society] is for this – laws also ~ Industry, application, sobriety
bring their rewards – Young men look forward to this.

Virtue is never ill-treated as such. Vice never vindicated
as such. Each, as such, receives its due reward – so far as
the things allow; if not immed. [immediate] yet remote. Man of industry
to-day [today] – to-morrow [tomorrow] sees golden harvest waving – professional man &c [etc.]
Intemperate rises to retching, nausea, pain, woe! Idler, to poverty.

A little sleep interrupts not the law – Shall the sleep of the
tomb do it? May not results wh. [which] go so far – go also
still farther? If to 80 years – why not to 1000?

Things here seem not fully developed – Human affairs are cut off
in the midst – before all the results have matured. Do they
fail? Nay – are they not yet to come? Contrast young man cut
down in youth – good – full of promise &c. [etc.] with one profligate.
Will not both reap in the future? Shall they gather like
sheaves? Who believes it in his soul?
