Laying of Corner-Stone Sacto [Sacramento] Sept. [21 in pencil] 1854.
Hymn S. M.
1 O Thou, whoes [whose] own vast temple Stands,"
Built over land and over Sea,"
Accept the walls our human hands
Are rearing here to honor thee.

2 In vain. Divinest Architect,
The builders strength and beauty bring,
Unless thou build and thou protect,
Beneath the sheltring [sheltering] wing.

3 "Precious Elect," great Corner-Stone,
Grant us thy temple here to be,
While we, by faith, and one by one,
As lively stones are built on thee.

4 All sure foundation, glorious God,
Rest firm on thee, and age endure,
While holy paths to heaven are trod,
By worshipers devout and pure,

5 Age, here, to thee let temples rise;
And here be heard sweet mercy's voice,
While stars shall gem the mid night Skies,
The vallies [valleys] bloom, and hills rejoice.
