out in great doubt & uncertainty, more or
less divided in opinion. In fact the study
of the various human tribes is by no means
completed. So much however we may say

most of the Polynesian races give pretty
clear proof of an Asiatic origin whether
they be of Mongolian or Tartar or Caucasian
^Papuan, mixture, of Asiatic African

Indeed they seem to be a mixed race and
their features, color, hair vary much.
They have not the wooly hair of the Negro,
their hair is quite strait, their noses are flat
yet not generally so flat as the African their
