peans are to offer this enticement how many delights
in corrupting them by this means is well known,
and how liable the Blacks are to fall into
the vice of drunkenness, every town in the Colony
affords most awful & distressing instances.
When on these beastly habits have taken
hold on them they having no moral power
to resist the missionary's efforts will
with scarcely any exception be in vain.
III) The Natives become acquainted with too many
European luxuries which the Mission can not
afford to give them they will thus be dissatis
fied & have recourse to any means they can
devise to obtain them.

prevent the missionaries from having that con-
