Aboriginal [word crossed out] Superstitions
of [words crossed out]
It is commonly taken for granted that the Aborigines
of this country have no idea of a Supreme being
In the strict & full sense of the word this supposition
may be admitted. Yet a slight trace of the
idea is remaining een amont these most degraded
humn beings. They at least believe in the
existence of a good Spirit far suerior in power
knowledge & hapiness to man. His name is
Baiamai; he lives in the east, is of an
eternal nature, has plenty to eat, bread is
his princial food, and he can command fish
to come out of the water [words crossed out] to be food for him.
He has a wife & a son, is surrounded by
a sort of angels viz: beings superior to man
who wait upon him. The Blacks expect to
go to him.
