not be used the lime destroys it

Saturday the 26 Jany 1856

Snowed 8 in deep on the 3 old snows
which makes the snow now on average
from 12 to 18 in deep Ther at 19 Deg all day
don no work but get fire wood this year
Foster & Dan both sick Dan not bad but
Foster is bad off with pneumonia our Stock
looks verry bad especially out cattle we
have had all our out hogs in the Barn lot
since the 5th Jany when the first snow fell
verry old middle aged and young say they
never saw such a time of snow and
cold weather the ice on the pond is 12 in
thick and thick enough on the river to walk
& ride over at the shallow ford and has
been thick enough to walk over for the
last two weeks or more

Wensday the 39 Jany 1856 verry cold Ther at 3 Deg
above zero halled a few loads Ice to day & put on
the top of the other ice in the House the Ice we
halled to day is 8 or 9 in thick
The snow still lies on the ground from 8 to
15 in deep melts verry little during the warmest
part of the day

Sunday3rd Feby 1856 Snowed 3 in deep this
morning Ther at 23 D

Monday the 4 Feby 1856 cold this morning the Ther
stands at 3 above zero and the old snows
is now over 12 in deep on an average
