Teusday the 5th Feby 1856 The coldest this morning
it has been for the last 21 years the Ther stood at
8 Degrees Below zero yesterday was a verry cold day
the therm in the heat of the day was at 26 and the
sun shined all day

Wednesday the 6 Feby 1856 Cold this morning the
Ther 8 Deg above zero It has been so cold for
five weeks that we have done nothing but get
fire wood and hard work to do that It has
been So Cold that the Rabits patridges &
Sparrows froze to death in large numbers
and yesterday morning when the Ther was 8 D
below zero the threes in the woods would
pop like small pistol cracks something
we have never known in N.C. before

Thursday the 7 Feby 1856 Rained and sleeted all
of last night & this morning until 12 oclock
then turned warm & stoped raining the sleet
melted off of the trees but the snow goes away
verry slow ther at 37 D

Friday the 8th Feby 1856 rained again last night
but did not sleet the snow packs down
but melts verry slow

Teusday the 12 Feby 1856 Cold & cloudy
yesterday with a little snow but cleared
off last nigh and the wind Blows cold this
morning killed 3 hogs this morning weighing
542 lbs The snow is yet 6 in deep on
an average some places nearly all melted and
others a foot deep froze so hard of mornings
we can walk on it
We killed at the first killing 20 hogs weighing 3336
at 2 killing 21 2816
3 killing 3 542
In all 44 hogs & 6694 lbs
