13th May 1856 The Black Cow Had a
heifer Calf got by Mr Cutterells Bull
from Dr Nealts Devon stock. the calf
is a verry dark red one white head
leg and a small white Spot on top of
the head and looks like it might
make a fine Cow The mother of
the calf is the best milker we have
ever had
Saturday the 17 May 1856 Finished breaking
middles all but a small peace north of
the old barn
Monday the 19th May Rained yesterday a good
season too wet to plan to day set out 500
cabbage plants
Tuesday 20 May 1856 Commenced Crop
planing our corn to day it is verry
grassy but looks well quite warm
21 May 1856 Yesterday John Lunn speyed
15 pigs and castrated 9 Bull calves and
one Buck Goat They are doing well today
I planted to day in the yard around
the House 9 Cork Oak Acorns
from the South of France Sent to Col S Taylor
from the patent office and he give them
to (They did not come up GWJ 1857)
28 May 1856 Finished cross plowing
corn
Thursday the 5th June 1856
Commenced plowing our Corn the 3rd time plowed
the orchard & stoped it is too dry to plow had
no rain since the 19th May Our corn is
Small & not thined yet We have been
Healling Rock off of the Born field for the
last 5 days & putting them in a gully
