Saturday 2 Jan 1858 finished our ice house
all new and much larger than it was
[] path commenced for another year to
day at $150. + board himself (fine day)
Monday the 4 Jan 1858 cut + halled wood today
verry fine weather for work
Tuesday the 5 Jan 1858 Rained all day
Wednesday the 6 Jany 1858 clear + warm but verry
muddy we worked in barn thrashing oats []
Bought a black mule cott [] old of [] []
for $45 today
Saturday the 9th January 1858 Been verry warm for season
days past been cutting + [] dead wood along
the creek + with the woods near the mill pond
Monday the 11 Jany Rained all day yesterday and verry
hard all night [showery] today verry warm then 69
cleaned off in the evening still verry warm
thrashed oats + cut coal wood at the shop today
Tuesday the 12 Jany 1858 cleared off warm cut + halled
wood along the mud pond to warm to kill hogs
for the last week today we put up 5 more
hogs to fatten pork is [] and sells at 8 into 9 []
I do not sell any but may sell some bacon we still
have 25 hogs to kill get that we put up in the fall
Thursday the 14 Jany 1858 cloudy and warm
Frank [Harted] to chapel Hill today [for] graduates
in Jane next we need him at home verry
bad now
Friday the 15 Jany 1858 Rained all day verry warm yet
done no work out
