Saturday 1st January 1859 we commence our farm
-ing opperations this year with the following
hands John Potts overseen lined at $17500 year
and the following hands Daniel Jack George
Anda Jerry + Luke all stoul good hands the small
hands are [] John Jening + Belly Gaston and Laz George
+ Henry little negro boys are [] + Caroline Girls
makeing in all 7 good hands and 8 small ones
they would all make 10 hands
we have sowed in wheat about 75 acres and in rye
25 acres and expect to sow in oats 80 acres and
to plant in corn 110 acres which is our crop
for this year
we ahve 5 work mules and 4 work horses 7 mules 1 1/2
years old and 3 mules 6 months old two horse colts
1 1/2 old + one Jimmy 1 1/12 yrs old making in all
22 head we have 45 head of cattle 40 sheep 15 goats
and about 73 head of young hogs we ahve plenty of hay
fodder + straw + shucks + oats to feed our stock []
but corn is scarce we have on hand now about
1000 Bu of corn perhaps not quite that much
choped today the ground is verry wet + the roads mudy

Monday 3rd January 1859 snowed a light sprinkle last
night perhaps 1/2 inch deep clear this morning + the snow soon
melted choped + halled some saw logo to Dr Williams
saw mill today cloudy

Tuesday 4th January 1859 snow a little again last night
but is clear again this morning worked as yesterday

Saturday the 8 Jany 1859 cloudy yesterday with a light
sprinkle of rain the night before it cleared off in
the night last night + the wind blow verry cold + hard
clear this morning + the ther 20 deg
choped today ground froze + verry rough in
the roads where it was muddy
