Queensland place names and their meanings.

[Yandina] .⁽⁶⁾ [Tom Petrie] spelled this name as Yandinna
and gave its meaning as"small place of water".

The translation of the word ,in effect, is"to go an foot".
"yan" to go,and"dhinang" (often written by translators
"dinna") meaning feet. Its relation to [Petrie]'s
tranlation of the name may be seen in the fact that at
[Yandina] is first place from the mouth of the [Maroochy River]
that the said river can be crossed on foot. Actually it
means a ford.

[Goondalba]. ⁽⁴⁾ Should be Kong-dalbur, meaning short,or
narrow water, from "koong" water, and "dalbur" short or
narrow.

[Caloundra]. Origin and meaning unknown.

[Bli Bli] and [Belli] --- both slight corruptions of "belai" meaning
the she-oak tree (Casuarina glauca), generally
called by white people "billah".

[Didddilibah]. Meaning unknown.

[Puddlebah Ridges]. I am not sure as to which place this
name relates. If it should refer to ridges a little to t
the north of [Nambour], the word should be "budlerum", meaning
"lightening" and the ridges were so-called by the blacks owing
to the pecular attraction these ridges have for lightening
strokes. ([Mr. Carrol] of [Nambour] is my authority for
this translation).

[Tallababa]. Meaning unknown. Qr. Does this name ,by
any chance refer to the Tunda-bulla of the [Glass house
mountains] ?

[Kulangoor]. A derivative of the word kalang ,meaning
good .The word literally means "goodly" or "satisfactory"
and does not mean "sweet" except in the sense that sweet
is good or satisfactory. The local word meaning sweet
is "gegar" sometimes contracted to ge-ar.⁽³⁾
