Queensland place names and their meanings.

Two other place names which may be of interest.

[Caboolture]. Is derived from Kabooltya, meaning place of
carpet snakes, from kabool, carpet snake and tya, country or
place. According to a map published in 1847 this name
was first applied to the inner end of what is now [Deception
Bay]. Later on its seems to have been applied to the
river then known as [Cuthbertson's Creek] from which again the
township and railway station have taken it their names. The name
is of Yagarabul origin.

[Maleny]. A township and parish situated to the west of the [Blackall
Range]. This name is mentioned on account of the diversity
of opinion on the matter. The/name was derived from the

surveyor. Adjoinging parishes are named from two other
members of the staff.
