On motion, the secretary was requested to
forward a copy of said charges to Mr. Lehman
and request him to appear before the Board
on Sunday next to answer to the same.

Communication from Hallover & Co. containing
a proposition to furnish meat to the members
of our congregation was received and laid
on the table. On motion, the meeting
adjourned till Sunday next at 2 1/2 o'clock
P.M.

Sacramento, July 14th, 1861

A special meeting of the Board of Officers
of Congregation Benai Israel was held
in the synagogue. President D. Kohen
in the Chair.

The article of complaint against C. Lehman
was taken in consideration.

Mssrs. Mr. Hyman & Wm. Harris withdrew their
names from the complaint.

Mr. Marks being called for this complaint said
he weighed a piece of meat which Mr. H. Harris
showed him and for which said Harris paid 40 cents
weighing 2 1/2 # good weight.

Mr. Harris asked for further time for the purpose
of procuring further testimony which was granted.
Mr. M. Joseph on the part of the defense said
that Lehman offered said Harris a piece of meat
weighing 4 # for 4 bits which said Harris refused to give.
Revd. M. R. Cohen asked to be excused from testifying
in this case. On motion, Mr. Cohen was excused.
Revd. Mr. Cohen proposed a compromise, but Mr.
Harris positively refused to accept of any.

Mr. I. Lewis was proposed by A. Levy to become
a member of our congregation. Mr. L. was balloted
for an election.

On motion, the meeting adjourned.
