Sacramento, September 17th, 1865
A special meeting of the
Congregation was held, the President
Mr. Elkus in the chair. In the absence
of the Secretary, P. Franklin was appointed secretary pro tem.
The President stated the object of
this meeting to be the sale of
seats for the approaching holy days,
also to take in consideration a
communcation of five members asking for
a special meeting. On motion, the
communication was received, placed
on file and request complied with.
A motion to reconsider the vote
by which a motion made at the
previous to allow ladies and
gentlemen to sit together in the
synagogue was lost, was carried.
A motion of J. Davis that
ladies and gentlemen be allowed
to sit together in the lower hall
was carried. Mr. J.S. Newmark
and L. Flatau were fined
5 dollars each for being absent after
applying for a meeting and
M. Joseph the same amount
for misconduct during the
meeting. On motion of Mr.
Nathan the meeting proceeded to
the sale of seats, after which
it adjourned.
