Synagogue September 4, 1870

The semi-annual meeting of
the congregation was held.
President L. Elkus in the chair.

The minutes of the last regular
meeting, also of special meetings,
and of the Officers meetings were
read and approved.

On motion the recommendation of the
Board of Officers in regard to the disposition
of seats was adopted.

M. Friedman moved that children
under 5 years of age shall not be admitted
to shul during service and that seats
be provided for all children from
the age of 5 to 15 years, provided
however that parents may purchase
seats for their children whereever they
see fit. Mr. S.J. Nathan amended
to strike out 5 years, the motion was
carried as amended.

A motion was made and carried
that choice seats be sold to the highest bidder
and the remainder be drawn by ballot
and distributed by the President to
each member.

The President declared the election of
Chazzan, Shochet, and Teacher now in order.
On motion of M. Wilson, Rev H. Loewenthal
the present incumbent was elected for
three (3) years from September 1st, 1870
at a salary of one hundred dollars per month,

After the sale of seats, the meeting adjourned.
