The Course of Study for the sophomore year requires College
Physics. Over 45% of the students in the Freshman Class have
had no Physics. First year physics is sufficiently difficult
for most students. To require this course would be requiring
students to take a course in which about 60% or more, could
well be marked "failure" before they enter.
Chemistry IV is also offered and only 45% of the Freshman
Class have had chemistry.
I might go on through Latin, French, and other courses and
show that the situation is as lamentable. I remember noting
particularly that one student, a graduate of a standard high
school, has had no language.
In order to relieve some of the difficulties that will be
encountered, I am offering a few suggestions. I do not claim
that these suggestions will remove all difficulties, but
I do believe that they will help.
The following courses are derived from those offered in various
schools about the country. Their effort to overcome some of
the same difficulties that are presented to us has been studied
very carefully. In the first course some of the schools are
mentioned to give an idea of generalness.
These courses could easily be administered by eight teachers
for the next year.
1 ( Chemistry, Geology, Biology) 1 English, 1 History, 1
Latin, 1 French, 1 Mathematics, Physics, 1 Music, and 1 for
Educational subjects.
