Sir:

Whereas, it seems probable that one of the state normal
schools for the colored race will be enlarged and expanded
into a four year standard college.

There, be it resolved that the Board of Trusteees of
the Durham State Normal respectfully urge that the authorities
give careful consideration to the questio of establishing the
proposed institution in Durham because of manifold advantages
amoung which are:
(1) Location. Durham is centrally located, and may be
easily reached by railway fromany setion of the state, and
by a splendid system of hard surface roads.
(2) Environment. The high type of colored citizens in
Durham, and the success they have achieved in business and in
the different professions makes Durham a good place in which to
train the youth of the colored race.
(3) Hospitals. Lincoln Hospital which promises to be
when the new buildings are erected, one of the best equipped
hospitals for the colored race to be found any where in this
section of the country , & located near the school.
(4) The Public Schools. The splendid provision made by
the city and the county of Durham gives prospective teachers
an object lesson in public education.

(5) The Churches. The different denominations have churches
with strong efficient leadership and they exert a strong influence on the
school and religious life of the people.

(6) Special advantages. The proximity of the Durham State
Normal to the University of North Carolina and Trinity College
