Hon. Leland Stanford,
Dear Sir: While I am, but a poor struggling young man, actuated I hope, by only those ambitions, which are honorable, and while I know nothing, or your private affairs, which has placed Mr. Huntington in the Presidency of the S. P. Co. yet I feel, that this State, owes you now more than ever the petty honor of United States Senator, and I write you, simply to say, that I want to be placed on your list of friends, as one, who thinks that you are one of the greatest men of this age and the greatest philanthropist the world has ever known.
Yours Truly.
H. V. Morehouse.
