Dear Doctor:

The bearer of this letter is Wilson Evan a son of the
late General Evans of Cal. He has been in my office as page for
some years and is now getting town age when he ought to have an
opportunity to improve his education which he cannot well have in
my office. I take a great deal of interest in him and I wish you
would examine him sufficiently to tell him what is necessary for
him to do in order to prepare himself for admission as a student
in the university.
