I would be glad to spend a year or more in collecting and am confident that if such an arrangement should be made it would result greatly to the advantage of the University. I have spent the past summer in making botanical collections and investigating the grasses of the Southwest territories for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. That work is now nearly completed and I could enter upon work in California by the 15th [inst.?]
