Various leading journals have recently given currency to the statement that you intend to devote a portion of your great fortune to the promotion of charitable and educational institutions for the good of your fellow citizens of California, that they may hold your name in grateful remembrance as a benefactor of mankind.
In furtherance of this idea we would respectfully suggest to your favorable consideration an institution which in every respect is a public benefaction and which to accomplish its purpose needs the assistance of some such
