Holdrege Neb. July 28"/93

My dear Mrs Stanford;

Permit me
to tell you how sorry I am
for your sorrow. There is
a great fraternity of bereft
wives and childless mothers
to sympathize with one
another, for only those whose
hearts have been broken know
know what this relationship
implies.

When I heard of the death
of your brilliant son my
whole being was touched, -
but not until our own
adored Ernest was laid
low by the same dread
disease under almost
similar circumstances
