My dear friend,

I was very much shocked
to read the account of your
dear husband's death. You
know how truly I can sym-
pathize with you in this, your
greatest affliction, but I cannot
think that you were unprepared
in one sense for the change
which you had done so much
to avert.

I have felt solicitous about
