This soldier enlisted in the Regular Army from Columbus, Ohio, in 1913, and served continuously until his term of enlistment expired in January, 1919, at which time he opted to enlist for further service in the Army. He was private in a horse cavalry regiment, and most likely saw service along the US-Mexico border in 1914 or 1915. He deployed overseas in 1916. Since the United States was not yet a belligerent in WWI, this deployment was most likely to the Territory of the Philippines to continue pacification of both Filipino nationalists and Muslim Moro insurgents.
