Mr. O'Bayley did not serve in uniform during the time the United States was a belligerent in WWI. He enlisted in the Regular Army in the spring of 1914, and was assigned to the Coast Artillery Corps. However, he apparently soon ran afoul of his superiors; he was convicted by a general court-martial on 11 November 1914, and separated with a dishonorable discharge.
