and when I read of the sudden
death of Senator Stanford in
the papers a short time ago I
could not refrain from writing
to you. It is not because you
have not thousands of friends (for
I know that your friends are
legion nor that I can in any
way lessen your great sorrow that
I am writing to you but to let you
know that in a small minin[g]
camp in the heart of the "Rocky
Mountains" there is one heart
that aches for you. and that tho
none of your loving friends that
there Sympathy is more sincire [sic] then
is mine. As I read of your beautyful [sic]
Christian character my heart swells
up with love for you and how
often have I looked at your face
as it looks in the picture that
