the same matter, but I do not have
that at hand, at this moment.

This indicates our desire and hope
to secure for our future ministry the
unequaled advantages of your great
University, and make of them men
who shall be equal to the high, the sa-
cred responsibilities that will devolve
upon them. Words can not express the
bitterness of our disappointment if it fails.

This is written in the hope that it
will successfully appeal to you and
find in you the generous friend we
so much need. Otherwise we must
suffer disappointment. Should you,
in the magnaminity of your heart, elect
to grant our appeal we should feel
the same degree of gratitude that would
be due from us if you gave directly
the entire forty thousand dollars, for,
unless you do so, we shall be very
likely to have nothing.
