Dear Madame:

Failing to secure an interview
with you today, I gratefully accept
your suggestion to commit to writing
the subject matter that I desired to
present, hoping and praying that it will
meet a favorable reception at your hands.

Nearly two years ago Hon. A. G. Throop
of Pasadena deceased, and his will
was found to contain the following:
I donate the sum of twenty thousand
dollars ($20,000.) to the California
Universalist Convention, provided
that the said Convention within two
years after my death raise an equal
amount in bankable funds. Then the
forty thousand ($40,000) to be forever
