Leland Stanford Jr. University
Palo Alto, March 7, 1894
My dear Mrs. Stanford,
My first use of the
pen here must be to express my
thankful appreciation for the
perfect and generous provisions
you have made for my comfort
while here. The work is so new to me
that it is hard - harder than I had
supposed it would be - but I have
not spared any effort to meet in part
at least the expectations of your lamented
husband. When I get a little used
to this new role of a teacher I hope
to be able to find my stay here
a recreation.
In the hope of [securing?] you [?]
& of then being able to express more
adequately my [sense?] of your
thoughtful kindness
I am with great respect
Sincerely yours,
Benj Harrison
Mrs. Leland Stanford
